FIFA 12 | So You Want A… Left Back (Winter Update)

In the final article on defensive players, here is the data for left backs.

As before, listed below are some of the most promising young left backs in the game. In an attempt to make this relevant to as many players as possible, I have not included any LBs whose OVR is above 73 – this way you can keep your costs down and have some cash left over for other purchases (be they real players or new scouts). Furthermore, I have listed the players by cost, with the cheapest at the top of each sub-group (players are grouped by potential). However, this doesn’t necessarily mean that the lowest-OVR players are at the top – notice how Nicolai Boilesen is £1m cheaper than Armand Traoré, despite being younger, having a higher potential and being only 1 OVR point lower.

Here are my recommendations:

  • Nicolai Boilesen
  • Hong Chul
  • Samuel Umtiti

Despite having his potential lowered from 86 to 83, Nicolai Boilesen would still be a fantastic addition to your squad. He is speedy, a rock at the back, and is a good distributor of the ball as well. Very cheap at £2.1m, get him before his price rises.

I’ve long been impressed with Hong Chul because he’s a fantastic all-round player. He is very quick and has stamina 85, meaning you can play him game buy xanax usa after game, ensuring he will grow quickly. Good going forward and at the back, he’s also very talented when it comes to set pieces, so he could contribute vital goals to your team’s efforts as well.

Finally, Samuel Umtiti is extremely cheap for a 67 rated 17 year old, and because of this even small teams can buy him; the chance for a lower league team to purchase what could be their best player so cheaply should not be missed. He’s not the quickest, but is strong, good in the air and good at tackling, so he can slot into CB if needed. He’ll grow fast in order to reach his potential of 80 as long as you give him plenty of game time.

Please bear in mind that these figures may not be exactly the same on your game. These stats are taken from my own personal experiences, but are likely to be very similar to those on your own game. The best thing to do is to make sure you keep checking these players, as their prices may drop radically after a while.

Finally, if you’ve had any experiences of good players’ prices changing wildly (especially if their price drops), please post it in the comments.

So, without further ado, here are the players:

I don’t know to be honest. I usually submit £1.5m-£2m more than their suggested amount (unless their value is £5m or less, in which case I offer around £0.7m-£1.5m more). But try doing what I said above – submit a high offer, then if they accept keep reloading and whittling down the amount until they stop accepting. Then you know roughly how much to offer.

  1. is there any way to make a player join your club when the player says something like since the clubs are rivals they probly wouldnt sell as cheaply as we would want them to

Where does it say that? I’ve never had that problem to be honest (because I don’t think I’ve ever tried to buy from a rival), but I think if you offer enough money it’ll work. Save before you submit a bid, then submit a ridiculously large bid, then see if they accept. The reload and try offering less, and just keep trying (and reloading) til they accept.

  2. I really like Jetro Willems, because he is very fast. On the other hand he has not much stamina. But he’s definately one of my favourites.

  3. A lot of this information is wrong now? I had to download new content and I wonder if it changed all this? Both Chul and Boilesen’s contracts are bigger (higher wages) and four of the players you listed have higher costs. Are there updates?

I think EA sometimes make small tweaks to various players’ details. However, I go on the data available on the FIFA Fanatic website for things like OVR and potential. It would be impossible for the admin of that site to bring out a new table every time something changed slightly. Anyway, as I said in the intro, certain details may be slightly different on your game, it’s just meant to be a sort of rough guide.

  4. What about Fabio Daprela from Brescia? 20 years old, starts at 67 OVR and gets up to 83 OVR. More importantly his stamina gets to 99, sprint speed and acceleration in the low 90’s, stand tackle mid 90’s and slid tackle mid-high 80’s. I bought him after about 3 or 4 years and has been my best defender simply because he can play every game, is quick and is a good tackler. I also play him in CB against teams which have a quick striker as your typical CB’s can’t keep up.

He’s good, but after the winter update his potential is only 77, so he’s not on this list. I think Hong Chul plays very similarly to Daprela – he’s quick, has great stamina and is really good at crossing (plus free kicks too), so you could go for him instead if you have the winter update installed.

      1. Ah, that’s probably it, I don’t think I’ve installed the winter update. Love him pre-update though, such a beast.

I agree, I did a Brescia career pre-patch and he was one of my star men. Shame he’s gone down in potential, but there are others that you could consider (for example, Jack Robinson of Liverpool is another very pacey, very cheap young LB, and he has potential 81 post-patch).
