FIFA 19 career mode wishlist

We love FIFA career mode, but we know it’s not perfect. There are still plenty of missing features that we wish EA would add to the game to take it to the next level.

These are the top five features we wish were in FIFA career mode. Most of them are centred on immersion, making it even more fun and realistic to manage your favourite club in the game.

Got a suggestion of what you want to see added to FIFA career mode? Leave your comments below!

Upgradeable facilities

Remember back when FIFA used to let you upgrade your club’s facilities? Over time you could buy a bigger stadium, improve the quality of your physio, hire better coaches for your players, plus much more. As your team rose through the divisions, your club’s facilities would improve in the way you chose. It was immersive and created all kinds of interesting dilemmas.

FIFA 19 career mode wishlist

Teams should be able to upgrade their facilities to match their status in the game

Bringing that back would improve one of the best bits about career mode: taking a club up the divisions from small-time minnows to powerful world beaters. It would let you move from a small, cramped ground to a massive stadium fit for a king. Upgrading your pitch would mean it would start in a better state and take longer to show signs of wear and tear. Upgrading your youth facilities would mean your academy players grow more quickly.

There are so many possibilities here to improve the immersion of FIFA’s career mode and make it a more hands-on experience.

Affiliate teams

One thing that is widespread among real-life professional teams but is totally absent from FIFA career mode is the use of affiliate teams. The idea is that two teams work together to share and develop players. A big club will send its young players to its affiliate in order to give them game time to develop, while the smaller club benefits because it gets high-quality players on loan, usually for free.

Working with an affiliate team could get you high-quality youngsters on loan

Introducing this to FIFA career mode would have a couple of benefits. Not only would it increase the realism and make career mode more immersive, but you’d immediately see the benefits, whether you’re a big or small club.

Youth squad league

I’ve said it time and again, but FIFA’s youth academy system needs an overhaul. At the moment you scout promising players for your team, then they sit around in the academy twiddling their thumbs until it’s time to promote them. It’s not very realistic, and it could be so much better.

FIFA 19 career mode wishlist

Adding more depth to the youth academy system would greatly improve career mode

Imagine this instead. Your academy takes part in a league against other youth academy teams, just like in real life. Every month your assistant manager gives you a report of how your youth players performed, and tells you who might be ready for promotion to the first team.

This would all be simulated – there would be no need to get any more hands-on than that – but it would be way more realistic than the current youth academy setup. Think about how interesting it would be to watch your youth players develop against other teams and see them competing in a league.

Proper stat tracking

We’ve all had our fair share of career mode superstars – those players who put in incredible performances year after year and become heroes for our clubs. But, frustratingly, there’s no way to look back at their past achievements. You can only see player stats for the current season.

FIFA 19 career mode wishlist

Imagine being able to track your favourite player’s stats over the many years they served your team

Instead, we should be able to see how many appearances our one-club player made for the team over 15 years. Or how many times our goal machine beat the keeper each season. Or even who won the Young Player of the Year award in Argentina ten years ago, if we want. To top it off, FIFA 19 could automatically make a ‘best ever 11’ squad of all your top players throughout your managerial history.

Think how much more realistic career mode would feel if we could keep track of all our favourite players like that. Let’s hope it gets added.

Career mode challenges

Career mode is great fun, but not everyone can stick with it for the full 15 seasons that it lasts. Some people just want to dip in and out rather than be in it for the long haul.

Fancy yourself the next Pep Guardiola? You’d be able to prove you’re up to the job with career mode challenges

Career mode challenges would be the perfect solution. You could take over a team struggling against relegation and be tasked with avoiding the drop in the final three months of the season. Or try to make £100 million transfer profit in five years. Or securing promotion from League 2 to the Premier League in successive seasons.

There are loads of possibilities that could bring a bit of extra spice to FIFA career mode.

What about you?

That’s my FIFA 19 career mode wishlist. What do you want to see in this year’s game? Is there anything that you’ve been wanting for ages that EA should add to FIFA 19? Share your thoughts in the comments!

  1. All the above sounds like amazing additions. Especially the affiliates program. Personally, I would love to see the MLS draft put into the game for those who start with an MLS team. 🙂

  2. Bring back Team Morale and Team Chemistry.

In career mode you can just buy any player to fit in your squad. If you sign other players from the same league or the same nationality would improve the chemistry morale would be improved by good results, especially from big games.

    Press conferences

The ability to take part in press conferences like in The Journey would make it more emersive. Your choice of words could either affect your team’s morale or the boards confidence or the or your fan base. All of these would have an effect in games and the rest of the season.

Ah that’s a good idea! Team chemistry is definitely a hugely important factor in real life, and it’d make squad building much more interesting. You could get your scout to look at a few players and part of his report would say which player would be the best fit for your current team.

    2. If you insert “Team Chemistry”, there should be a way to help a foreign player fit into your squad after a couple months. If not, that would be really limiting who you can sign for your club.

  3. I totally agree. All of these would be a massive improvement. Definitely the one about making your club better. Many of times I start a career with my local team (Southend United) and in 6 years in the champions league with still only 11000 attendance

  4. I love these ideas! EA has not really said anything, but they have showed the career mode fans that EA only cares about what makes them money, everything else is left on a slow burner, implementing small changes year to year. Unfortunately EA as a company does not really listen to their audience, that is why most FIFA career mode fans now play FM (Football Manager). It is a much more diverse and informative game. The day EA actually reaches out to its fans or a phenomenon happens where Reddit complains about an EA game (STARWARS BF2), career mode will always be underwhelming. That said here are my suggestions to really overhaul Career mode and start to bring its fan base back, instead of making a 60 dollar game just for roster updates and cosmetic updates:

CHAMPIONS LEAGUE, EUROPA LEAGUE, UEFA SUPER CUP!!!! Finally, EA finally “scraped some money” together to beat out Konami for the UEFA licensing. Maybe in the future EA will start to pry more licensing from PES so that FIFA can really become the immerse game it once was.

WHAT EVER HAPPENED TO FIFA 07 AND 08!!! Being called ‘Manager Mode’ ten years ago, those modes had multiple pieces that really made manager mode feel personal; stadium upgrades, staff upgrades, ticket pricing, sponsorship contracts and signings to name a few.

The Frostbite engine is amazing. However for a number of years, EA have had the same manager faces and apparel. Surely they could do with a little more customization.

    STOP THE SCRIPTED TRANSFERS!!

STOP TEAMS FROM BUYING EXCESSIVE PLAYERS IN THE SAME POSITION!!!!

The “big boy teams” should not be in relegation battles

More contract options between players and teams

    Fix goalkeepers

Fix transfer budgets. If you just won the EPL or Champions League you should have $$$$$$ to spend (Think Leicester after they won the league). Relegated teams from the top division should have to make tough financial decisions: sell on your best and most expensive players or keep them and try to get promoted again.

A reserve team and affiliated league would be massive, not only for youth prospects, but for fringe players that want game time. May be you would want to see match facts and ratings afterwards so that you could analyze the players performances.

The multi year stat tracking is a must, EA is a big studio therefore they should be able to sort that out. The introduction of press conferences would be a nice addition.

I personally don’t care about press conferences, however since they designed transfer negotiations, a weekly press conference should be a piece of cake.

These are just a few glaring deficiencies in FIFA. Obviously if FIFA and FM could combine then the ultimate football game would exists however that is not how the world works. For now as a FIFA fan I can only wait and hope that CM gets better.

Oh god don’t get me started on teams buying 30 players for the same position! Been a problem for years and it’s still not fixed.

To be honest a lot of these ideas were motivated by Football Manager. Obviously I don’t want FIFA to be as in-depth as that because it can be overwhelming, but I’ve been playing FM recently and it’s amazing how it makes managing a team so immersive. If FIFA were to borrow a few ideas it’d make career mode so much better.

Actually it just says they play 0 games because the game is showing how many games in your league they’ve played. If you’ve loaned them to a different league then it’ll say 0, because they’re in another country. So don’t worry, they’re not actually playing nothing at all, but for some reason EA didn’t give a way to see their appearances if they’re loaned to another league.

  5. Would love to see a co-op career option (both need to sign a contract before signing/moving etc)

Or some features from the Journey to be implemented such as after game interviews on player career or even a press conference style interview as a manager. A personality scale like the journey as well

A personal life to spend wages on, I got this from the mobile app ‘new star soccor’

Relationships with every team in the league based upon match results, transfer interaction and location to determine rivals and teams who can build loan/youth feed relationships with.

    Stadium upgrades and staff training.

    Player rankings (PES have this)

I could go on…lots of room for improvement, Personally believe PES is slightly ahead on Career mode

  6. Use minimum potential not maximum potential, so you can max all player to 99 based on how you play and exp

Assisted more on low cross like pes

  7. Completely agree on the statistics part. One big frustration for me has always been that I can’t see statistics of players I have out on loan if they don’t play in my league. I want to see if my 18 yo striker is scoring goals.

  8. I’d love to have the ability to apply for a managing job myself. Too often, I find myself having won everything and looking to take on a job at a small club again; but when you’re managing a top team, there’s no going down to a lower league club anymore. Would be nice if we coulf just select any club and hit “Apply” (they wouldn’t necessarily have to accept, but if you’re on Zidane’s level of coaching and looking to take over at some second-division club in France, chances are they’ll say yes^^)

  9. I love everything you’ve got listed here, but I personally want a live Champions League and Europa League draw, sort of in the way that NBA 2K does the NBA draft. Now that they have the rights to the Champions League (which I don’t totally get since it feels like they already have had at least some share of the license with the trophy and all that), it feels totally doable and would make career mode more immersive. But yeah, overhauling the youth academy would be great. I have a hell of a time getting even my most promising youth players loaned out or real game time.

  10. All what you mentioned has been a part of FIFA MANAGER. Ea decided a few years back to cancel that series, also due to competition of the great football manager series. Ea assured fans of the fifa manager series that features would be part of fifa career mode in the future, unfortunately articles like this show that ea seemingly just cut off Fifa manager without really implementing that game into fifa career mode, otherwise career mode would be far better and more expanded/realistic than it is now!

  12. You can keep your money remaining for the next season. So if I have 15 millions $ and my budget at the beginning of the season is 100 million $, I would have
    115 millions $

  13. I was thinking adding more add-in countries in the FA World Cup as well the domestic scouting to benefit the reciting such as adding Fiji, Mongolia, Swaziland, Tunisia, Kenya, Philippines, Thailand, Papua New Guinea…so on as specified for the Manager Career Mode, but something else more I want to add a caviar to the domestic club.

Maybe not add more leagues out besides the name I’ve mention because the “International Duties” gave none other then just the recruits to club, but their anticipation in the FA World Cup. In addiction to that, the staring XI of the Youth-18 and Youth-21 program in addiction of beefing the players stats, i’ll only see this probably in the domestic club in the Mediterraneans but can seizes an endless career mode would be crucial in the fifa 20 if not fifa 19 franchise out on the market.
