In these articles I look at the best cheap, high potential players in FIFA 17, with tonight’s post focusing on target men strikers. By ‘target men’, I mean big, strong strikers who are good in the air. If you need a striker who uses their pace, finishing and dribbling abilities to get their goals, you’ll want my guide to the best cheap, high potential goalscorers in FIFA 17.

In this article I’ll go through a few recommendations, then show you the full list of top quality players afterwards. For a full run down of how I choose the players and what the different columns in the table mean, click on “What are these articles all about?” below.

The articles in this series should give you some ideas if you’re looking for a new signing in a key area. There is one article for each position on the pitch to make it easy for you to quickly find players to bolster your squad.

All of the players given here have a minimum potential of 80, so you know you’re getting quality. The maximum OVR for each player is 75, both to keep transfer prices down and to avoid presenting you with too many options and thus making it too difficult to choose the player you need.

The ‘Avai?’ column is short for ‘available?’ and refers both to whether or not you can buy the specified player at the start of the first season and how long their current contract is. Let’s take Y/2 as an example – Y means that yes, you can buy him at the start of a new career, and the number means he has two years left on his contract. Similarly, N/3 would mean that no, you can’t buy the player straight away, and he has three years left on his contract. These ‘no’ players are often available for transfer if you wait until the January transfer window, however. For some players this column is blank – this means that they are out on loan at the start and are therefore unavailable for purchase until the second season.

The figure in the player cost column refers to the price you are given if you scout the player. There’s also another column – ‘Enquiry’. This refers to the price the other team want for the player if you enquire about him. Often there is a large difference between the player cost obtained through scouting and that obtained through an enquiry. This leaves a lot of room for negotiation, so don’t be put off if a price in the ‘Enquiry’ column is high, as you can usually get the player for much less. Try bidding lower than what you think will be accepted – you may be surprised at their response. If the ‘Enquiry’ column is blank it’s because the team refused to give a price, either because the player has just joined them or because they are loaning him in.

And as a final note, in FIFA 17 EA update player OVRs and potentials every week. Mose of the time these are very minor changes, and most players won’t be affected at all unless they have had a very noteworthy week. Furthermore, some players occasionally disappear if they have been put in the reserve squad that week. So just bear in mind that these figures should be read as a guide only and not a definitive account of player costs, potentials, etc, for the entire season.[/expand]

So without further ado, let’s see the cheap young target men strikers that I recommend.

Kasper Dolberg: potential 88

FIFA 17 best cheap target men strikers

Kasper Dolberg has huge potential and great stats

Ajax’s Kasper Dolberg is one of the most exciting young strikers in the world right now, and you need to snap him up if you have the cash. As if his amazing 88 potential wasn’t enough, his stats are great too. He’s strong and tall but also pretty fast, which is great for tearing past defenders and holding off challenges. He’s got excellent finishing and very good positioning too, so will be deadly in the box.

His 6’2″ height, 79 strength and Power Header trait mean he’s a great target man – someone who will dominate in the air and hold the ball up well for his teammates. But his finishing and dribbling ability make him a great solo striker in his own right.

Ajax want £11m for him, but you can get that down to around £9m. His wages are £8,800. You have to pay a fair amount to get him on your team, but if you need a high potential target man to spearhead your attacks, he’s a no brainer.

Óscar Estupiñán: potential 80

FIFA 17 best cheap target men strikers

Óscar Estupiñán has amazing stats for his OVR

Óscar Estupiñán of Once Caldas in Colombia is an intriguing player. He comes in at 72 OVR, but has 76 finishing and 80 heading accuracy, one of the best finishing/heading combinations of anyone in this guide and suggestive of a much higher OVR. He’s an old-fashioned target man – big and strong, his 85 strength and 87 jumping make him a force to be reckoned with in the air.

He’s also got 80 acceleration which, combined with his 75 positioning and excellent finishing, means he’s great with the ball on the floor as well. So if you need a powerful, deadly striker who won’t break the bank, he’s your man.

Speaking of cost, another attraction for him is his low price – Once Caldas want just £3.7m for him, which can be knocked down to about £3m. His wages are also very cheap at £1,100. So if Dolberg is too expensive, make this guy your next stop.

Moussa Konaté: potential 81

FIFA 17 best cheap target men strikers

Moussa Konaté is free and has some excellent stats

Next up is Moussa Konaté of FC Sion in Switzerland. Physically speaking, he’s almost the opposite of Estupiñán. Whereas Estupiñán is strong but not particularly fast, Konaté is super speedy. But don’t think he’s in this article accidentally – his 81 jumping, 75 heading accuracy and 6’0″ height make him a fantastic target man.

In fact, he’s something of an all-rounder. He’s great in the air, but rapid too. He can head the ball but is great at finishing and dribbling. Add in great positioning, agility and penalties and he’s capable in almost any situation.

Best of all? He’s free. Just approach him in the January transfer window and select ‘approach to sign on contract expiry’ and he’ll join your team at the start of the next season. His wages are £16,500.

Thomas Olivier Amang: potential 81

FIFA 17 best cheap target men strikers

Thomas Olivier Amang is amazingly powerful for his age and OVR

If you need a budget option (and even if you don’t), Thomas Olivier Amang of Molde FK in Norway is almost impossible to beat. His OVR is 61 but he comes with 81 strength and 84 jumping, as well as 85 acceleration and 85 sprint speed. That’s incredible.

That means he can run at defenders but also muscle them off the ball and beat them in the air too. He’s 6’0″ tall but, unusually for someone of that height, has 86 balance, so won’t get easily knocked off the ball. He’s a physical machine and, thanks to his 81 potential, will soon develop into a technical maestro as well.

You can’t buy him in the first transfer window, but enquire in January and Molde FK will want just £1.4m. You’ll be able to get that down to around £1m, and his wages are just £900. He’s the budget option, but there’s nothing cut-price about his abilities.
